A useful tariff exposure analysis explains how much duty or tariff cost exists, where it hit margin, and whether the records are strong enough for a licensed specialist to review later.
The exposure question.
Tariff exposure is not just the total paid on entry summaries. It is the business impact of that cost after it moves through landed cost, inventory, price, gross margin, replacement activity, returns, exports, and operating records. Importers often know the total spend but cannot quickly explain which products carried it or whether downstream records can support a next-step review.

The screen should start with line-level import entries, broker exports, duty and tariff amounts, invoice or PO references, product identifiers, dates, quantities, landed-cost allocation rules, inventory receipts, and any downstream export, destruction, replacement, rejection, or return records. The goal is a practical evidence map, not a legal conclusion.
What leadership should receive.
The output should separate materiality, traceability, gaps, and next-step questions. A strong result says whether the potential issue is big enough, whether the data can be matched, what is missing, and which questions should be taken to a qualified broker, attorney, or other specialist if the company proceeds.
When to stop.
Stop if duty spend is immaterial, records cannot be tied below summary level, downstream activity is speculative, or the company is not ready to control secure source-file intake. A stop decision is useful when it keeps the business from spending money on a weak recovery narrative.
